Who is Philip Johnson?

Nick Matzke Wrote: Maybe Phillip Johnson deserves a pass because he is the Program Advisor for the Discovery Institute “research” program, … , who … may be “the smartest man in California,” … Well, after all, he was able to absorb “the literature on Darwinian evolution” and determine what “the problem” with it was all “within a few weeks”, so he must be really smart.

“Phillip Johnson” is Dilaudid King/Crazy Idiot (add other 40 user names here), who some of you should remember had an insane obsession with a certain widow’s daughter and is not welcome on this site anymore.

Apparently, Phillip Johnson is this guy: Why anyone would want to delete a kindly old man’s posts is beyond me!

His first name is spelled Phillip, not Philip; that might help you find him more successfully in Google searches. He’s one of the originators or intelligent-design creationism and is the author of Darwin On Trial, an early book that takes a creationist approach to evolution without being explicitly based in Genesis. He’s a law professor at UC Berkeley, and he takes a legalistic rather than scientific approach to evolution (as noted in the title of the above book of his). His basic thesis is that methodological naturalism doesn’t exist independently of philosophical naturalism (atheism) and he thinks “theistic realism” is a better approach. He appears to utterly despise theistic evolutionists, since they’re a rather inconvenient refutation of the evolution-equals-atheism approach that he espouses.
