Who is Olympia Snowe and why shouldve John McCain picked her?
Simply put, Palin panders more to the religious right as opposed to more moderate Snowe, who is a magnet for criticism by social conservatives for her pro-choice slant and support for gay rights. The so-called conservative “base” within the GOP is what McCain has been aiming for and Palin was the perfect tool in reining in those “values voters.” Yet, by doing so, he is alienating many moderate fence-straddlers who may have otherwise considered him.
