Who is most likely to suffer from renal cell carcinoma (cancer of the kidney) in the US?
RCC is most commonly found in people between the ages of 55 and 84 and affects men more frequently than women. Several factors can be attributed to an increased risk of RCC including smoking, misuse of certain pain medicines, and having certain genetic conditions such as von Hippel-Lindau disease, a rare genetic multi-system disorder characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth.
