Who is most at risk for fungal infections?
People are more at risk when they have recently taken antibiotics, have a weak immune system, have been taking oral steroids, or have diabetes. Moist skin, that is, skin that is not properly dried after intense sweating or bathing, can significantly increase the chances of developing a fungal infection. This is also true for people whose jobs cause their hands or feet to be wet or damp for long periods of time. Wearing the same clothes or shoes every day can also increase the risk of fungal infections, particularly if these items are poorly ventilated.
