Joel Steinberg was a former New York criminal defense attorney when he accused of the murder of a six years old girl Elizabeth (“Lisa”) on November 1,1987. Lisa was a six years old girl whom Joel and her live-in partner had adopted. Joel was accused of hitting Lisa on head as he was under the influence of cocaine and then he didn’t take any attention for her medication. On November 4, 1987 Lisa died at St. Vincent Hospital. But when Jeol physically abused his partner Hedda Nussbaum and a 18 months old adopted son Mitchell the story of Lisa’s death could not be hidden and the incident did much to fuel the media. Hedda Nussbaum was in her apartment with an unconscious and bleeding Lisa for more then 10 hours his defence suggested that her condition was resulted from a consensual sadomasochistic relationship between the two so she was not prosecuted for events related to Lisa’s death.
