Who is leading the designation efforts in Stuyvesant East?
The Stuyvesant East Preservation Action League, or SEPAL, which was formed by local residents in 2010. SEPAL has been working in co-operation with other local designation efforts, meeting with elected officials, meeting with the LPC, and with the Historic Districts Council. It has photographed every building in the proposed historic district, and is gathering Signatures of Support to present to LPC and to our Council Member, Darlene Mealy. You can do your part by: 1) signing a Signature of Support card (we’ll bring it right over!) and get your neighbors to do the same. And by wearing your “Designate Stuyvesant East!” button to show your support all the time. 2) joining the Forum on this site. Participate in dialog about the issue, and post updates and news. 3) becoming informed on the topic of historic district designation so that you and others can benefit from that knowledge.
