Who is Karma?
Red: Karma’s real name is Xi’an Coy Manh. She was born in Vietnam. She has the power to possess people. She was one of the original New Mutants. Karma, Xi’an Coy Manh, was born in the Central Vietnam highlands, a daughter of a colonel in the South Vietnamese army. Her powers of mental domination, or possession, were brought about when her brother, Tran, was about to be killed by a Viet Cong soldier. Xi’an instinctually took control of the soldier, thus preventing her brother’s death. He, Tran, however immediately discovered he had the same abilities, and made the soldier kill himself. A number of events occurred after this. South Vietnam was overthrown, her uncle promised, yet failed to evacuate Xi’an and her family, except for her brother Tran. her parents were slain at the hands of Thai pirates, while Xi’an and her family were attempting escape from Vietnam.
