Who is John Winthrop?
John Winthrop was born in England in 1588. He became a lawyer by being a lawyer’s apprentice. In 1620 he was an original investor and founder of the Massachusetts Bay Colony a private profit making Limited Liability Corporation, just like the Jamestown Virginia colony. The colony would also establish the Puritan Religion, a branch of Presbyterianism. In Presbyterianism, people elect the lay leadership. The Pastor may be chosen in a variety of ways. It uses republican government not direct democracy. The leadership meets in secret. (It had been a persecuted sect. As the governing body, the old rules which allowed it to survive now let it become a terrorist government.) John Winthrop served off and on as the Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony.
