Who is Jack Kevorkian? What is the controversy surrounding him?

Jack Kevorkian was a physician who assisted in the death of terminally ill patients. He has also been accused of not keeping proper documentation and assisting in suicides of people who did not undergo psychiatric evaluation. There’s plenty of websites out there that will hail him as a saint and others that condemn him as a murderer. Try typing “kevorkian” or “physician assisted suicide” into yahoo search, with all the information out there, you can form your own opinion on the subject.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian is an advocate of terminally ill patients who want to die with dignity. He was on trial several times for assisting terminally ill patients with painless suicide. He was convicted in Michigan for second degree murder and was recently released from prison. He says that he will no longer assist terminally ill patients with suicide, but will go through the legislative process to help obtain the right to die for patients who choose not to suffer. There is plenty of information from reputable sources on the Internet. I included one below. My own opinion is that people should have the right to take their own lives if suffering through physical and financial hardship is the alternative.

Jack Kevorkian was arrested for helping people commit suicide. He would set up the chemicals and allow them to push the button. At that time assisted suicide was against the law as it is still except in Washington state.

I believe that Dr.Jack Kevorkian was simply using his expertise to help those who are suffering. Those patients were going to die a slow painful death anytime soon. They asked for assistance in ending it. Therefore; he did nothing wrong…
