Who is involved with the Fund for Gender Equality?
The Government of Spain launched the Fund for Gender Equality with an initial contribution of US$65 million (EUR 50 million) to support concrete progress in the political and economic empowerment of women. UNIFEM, the women’s fund of the United Nations, will manage the Fund, drawing on over 30 years of leadership in women’s empowerment worldwide. A Secretariat manages the Fund’s activities at UNIFEM’s headquarters in New York, USA. The Secretariat is guided by a Steering Committee comprised of a rotating group of representatives from donor and programme countries, NGOs and multilateral agencies. Proposals are assessed by Technical Committees comprised of regional experts in women’s economic and political empowerment.
