Who is in control during Contract Negotiations?
The membership will present to the Local President their Contract Proposals, which will be voted on by the Local membership. Then, the Negotiating Committee will convene to coordinate the negotiation process. The National Director and Legal Counsel are available if the membership so chooses to utilize their services. At all negotiating sessions, a minimum of 2 negotiators must be present. It is the position of the AMFA that there be no secrets during negotiations, and as such will always strive to invite any member interested in attending a negotiating session. Many employers not accustomed to an open forum are initially sceptical, but have consistently given positive feedback after the negotiations are in progress.
