Who is General George S. Patton?
General George S. Patton was an American military officer who is perhaps most well-known for his command of American forces in the European theater in the Second World War. In 1970, General Patton was played by George C. Scott in the Oscar-winning film Patton, immortalizing him in American history. He has also been profiled in numerous biographies and books about the Second World War. Patton was born in California in 1885. In 1909, he graduated the United States Military Academy, going on to compete for the United States in the 1912 Olympics. He was given the command of the tank corps in the First World War, receiving the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Service Medal for his service in the First World War.
