Who is Frederick (Ricky) Rubtchinsky?
Frederick (Ricky) Rubtchinsky is Jodi Smith and Stacy Kamer’s uncle. He lived here in Boston and worked at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. He was the youngest of 5 children and the proud uncle of 10 nieces and nephews as well as 5 great-nieces and great-nephews. He passed away in 1991, too soon, at the age of 41. He was the uncle who tangoed at weddings, toasted at family gatherings, and lit up any room he entered. He was an ambassador to anyone visiting Boston, a consummate and generous host. He was a competitive Scrabble player and an almost Boston Marathon runner. He was a collector of records and of life-long friends. He always had a ready ear, kind smile and available shoulder. And, he possessed the rare and admirable ability to make everyone he met feel special. Even 18 years after his passing, he is deeply missed. We are thrilled to be establishing this scholarship in his memory, in a city he loved, down the street from where he lived, in the hospitality industry.
