Fiat is Italy’s largest motor car manufacturer as they own all the major Italian brands…for example. Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Ferrari. However, Ferrari operate an autonomous business, Fiat is merely the parent company. As for other major brands. Rolls Royce is a complicated one. Rolls Royce Motors is owned by BMW but Rolls Royce motors is not the whole Rolls Royce story. They used to make both motor cars and aircraft engines (perhaps most famously the Merlin engine which the Spitfire used) until the 1970’s when the company split into two separate divisions, Rolls Royce Motors and Rolls Royce plc. Now Rolls Royce plc, the aircraft engine manufacturer (amongst other things) became a partner to BMW until BMW withdrew from the project in 2000.
