Who is eligible to study in English schools in Quebec?
Students need a certificate of eligibility to study in English anywhere in Quebec. There are a few special exceptions, but in general eligibility is passed to a child by a sibling, parent or grandparent who studied in English in Quebec. Parents apply for the certificate of eligibility directly at the school the first time a child is registered. The certificate is required at all public schools and any private school that receives government subsidies. It is not required for Anglophone daycare facilities, CEGEPs or universities at this time. For more information consult “Instruction in English in Québec,” on the Ministry of Education (MELS) web site.
