Who is eligible for Vocational Training in schools?
All pupils in S3/S4 are eligible for Vocational Training Courses. However, school staff are expected to direct pupils into appropriate courses in terms of ability as many of the courses on offer are very demanding. Pupils on these courses attend college for one afternoon a week over the two years of S3/S4. Successful pupils can achieve a variety of certificates depending on the vocational area chosen – Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and Scottish Progression Awards (SPAs) are currently on offer, but we are moving towards piloting new qualifications called ‘Skills for Work’which are more approrpiate for school age pupils and hwich can be offered at Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2. All costs are covered by the authority – tuition costs, transport, persoanl prtoective equipment (including approrpiate clothing and footwear).
