In determining the eligibility and needs for special education services, parents, teachers and administrator work together whenever there is concern regarding student progress. Each school has a Student Intervention Team that follows a “problem-solving model” process that includes general education interventions. The Olathe School District is committed to meeting the needs of all students. The Problem-Solving Model is a process designed to support students, families and educators in addressing issues related to learning and individual student achievement. The processes are defined by four levels. Problem-solving: Level 1 The Problem-Solving Model begins in the classroom with the teacher working closely with the student and his or her parents in identifying the areas of concern, analyzing needs, and providing interventions and strategies to support the student’s progress.
