Who is eligible for private subsidized housing?
There are many different private subsidized housing programs. Eligibility requirements vary from one program to another. Most private subsidized housing projects have some apartments set aside for low-income households and other apartments that can be rented by any good tenant, regardless of income. Private subsidized apartments that are funded by Section 8 and MRVP have these eligibility requirements: • You must be low-income. • You must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen. • For elderly subsidized housing, you must be at least 60 years of age for state-funded housing and at least 62 for federally-funded housing. You must be able to live on your own. • For subsidized housing for the disabled, you must meet the disability criteria set by the government. • Your references must show that you will be good tenants.
