WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR NURSERY CROP INSURANCE?
Since 1989, Nursery Crop Insurance has been available to any wholesale nursery that derives at least 50% of gross income from wholesale marketing of nursery plants. Nursery Crop Insurance covers both field-grown and container-grown nursery plants. Structures, equipment and supplies are not covered by this insurance. Insurance applications can be made at any time during the year; premiums are prorated according to the start date. WHAT KIND OF COVERAGE IS PROVIDED? Nursery crop insurance protects against the following types of losses: • adverse weather; • fire, if undergrowth by plants and buildings has been controlled; • wildlife; • earthquake; • volcanic eruption; • failure of water supply if caused by an insurable cause of loss; • failure or reduction in power supply if induced by an insurable cause of loss; and • a loss in plant values because of the inability to market plants, provided such plants would be marketed during the crop year.
