Who is eligible for Healthy Kids?
All children are eligible for Healthy Kids if they are: • Under the age of 19 • Residents of Santa Cruz County • Living in families with incomes below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (for example, about $60,000 for a family of four) • Not insured through their families’ employer-sponsored insurance within the last three months • Not eligible for Medi-Cal or the Healthy Families program.
Immigration status does not matter. Why is there an income ceiling of 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level ? It is believed that families earning more than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level are more likely to have employer-sponsored health insurance. Since the Yolo CHI program is not intended to replace employer-sponsored health coverage for children, the 300 percent Federal Poverty Level seems reasonable. How do I apply? Certified Application Assistants will determine your children’s eligibility for Medi-Cal, Healthy Families or Healthy Kids. Once this determination is made, you will receive help applying for the program that is right for you. This service is free of charge. What do I need to provide during the application process?
