In order to be eligible for FML, the employee must be employed by the university for at least 12 months and must have worked at least 1250 hours during the 12 month period prior to the leave. Eligible employees are entitled to a maximum of 12 workweeks of leave for a qualifying reason, including paid and unpaid leave, during a rolling 12 month period. If the need for FML is sporadic (e.g. absences for medical treatment), then the absences are referred to as intermittent leave. These absences are counted toward the 12 weeks of leave.
