Who is eligible for Developmental Disabilities services?
• Children 5 years old and younger with substantial developmental delays as determined by your school district or medical professional. • Individuals over 5 must have an IQ under 70 or a related condition such as cerebral palsy, autism, or a seizure disorder. In addition, they must have limitations in areas such as self-care, communication, social skills, learning, mobility, self-direction, and independent living. • The assessment to determine IQ and functional skills must be conducted by a licensed psychologist or school psychologist. Dakota County may be able to pay for the assessment if there is no other funding source. What help is available through Developmental Disabilities services? • Case management is provided by a social worker to help with: • Determining needs of your child • Identifying service and support options • Obtaining available funding • Support and services include: • In- and out-of-home respite care • In-home staff supports • Behavioral interventions • Community i
