Who is Eligible for a Military Scholarship?
If a person has an immediate family member who is in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force, then he/she is considered a military dependent. The military service member may have retired many years ago, or still be on active duty. To qualify for assistance, the family member must be the military service member’s brother or sister, husband or spouse, or son or daughter. Various Military Scholarships Available? Military dependents are eligible for a variety of scholarships and programs, including the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA), which supplies as much as 100% of the tuition expense for full-time students who are enrolled in a retraining or degree program. In addition, a large number of states now recognize the need for assisting family members of veterans with educational funding assistance, especially when the veteran is disabled, deceased, MIA, or a POW.
