Who is effected by acid rain?
The entire United States is effected by acid rain. Although several areas have more pollution from industries than others do, pollution can travel hundreds of miles away from the original sources. The largest concentration of acid rain occurs in the Eastern United States and Southeastern Canada as well as into the Atlantic Ocean. Midwestern and Eastern factories send acidic pollution into the air and they follow weather systems and the upper level winds to the east. As the acidic chemicals enter into the air, they combine with water particles and fall to earth with the rain. This causes acids to fall on everything; soil, trees, leaves, cars, buildings, grass, ponds and lakes. This acid rain will change the characteristics of all that it touches. Where does the acid come from? Acids are pumped into the air by many different sources. Eastern United States, Eastern Canada and Europe receive acid pollution from sulfuric acid and nitric acid.
