Who is Ed Thomas ?
OK, I figured most people wouldn’t know and if you did know, I owe you a cup of coffee. Ed Thomas is a hero. He’s also dead. Struck down in the prime of his life by a crazy person. And while Ed Thomas’ death did get some media attention, it was nothing compared to the avalanche of news we get when a “celebrity” dies. He was the high school football coach in the small Iowa town of Parkersburg. Last Wednesday, at about 8 a.m., Thomas was shot by a former player while supervising a morning workout in the school’s weight room. He died at a nearby hospital. We tend to think these tragedies only happen in big cities. But no town is immune, unfortunately. Parkersburg, Iowa was already dealing with a tragedy. The town was virtually wiped off the map after a tornado hit in May of last year. Thomas was one of the leaders in the effort to boost the town’s morale as it dealt with its loss and start the rebuilding process.
