Douglas Green of Paarl is recognised as South Africa’s first true wine negociant, a business model he had come across while studying and working in the wine industry in France. Instead of the traditional philosophy of regionality, Douglas Green somewhat unconventionally began sourcing grapes from far and wide throughout the Cape winelands. This approach afforded him the flexibility to develop distinctive styles.
