An Aboriginal student is defined, by the BC Ministry of Education, as a person in a public school that has self-identified (or by parents) that he or she is of Aboriginal, Metis, Inuit or First Nations ancestry. Students may or may not belong to a First Nation Band. Ancestry is indicated on the school enrollment form called “Form 1701” which is completed based on September 30th enrollment each year.
