Who is currently winning the high definition DVD format wars?
Currently, it’s Blu-Ray. The finer blue laser allows for more storage capacity, therefore allowing game developers and movie publishers to put longer and better quality games/movies on a single disk. Also, it’s succeeding in the business, computer, and personal worlds. Single-layer Blu-Ray disks have 4x the storage capacity of HD-DVD, meaning you have to buy less of them to put more stuff on them. A dual-layer Blu-Ray can hold 120GB of data. That’s about the size of an onboard hard drive on most computers. And if you ned any further proof, just look at the number of Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD disks sold. Blu-Ray sold twice as many as HD-DVD (1.6 million vs. 0.8 million). Of course, I don’t see any reason why both companies couldn’t win out in the long run. There are already dual-format players that don’t cost significantly more than either one. However, I think that once the price of Blu-Ray drops, HD-DVD’s limited capabilities will become more noticeable, and most companies will drop the form
