Who is considered at “high risk” of contracting hepatitis C?
Health care workers are at risk due to needle sticks and should always practice routine barrier precautions, such as disposing of needles in sharps containers and wearing latex gloves. Other people at high risk include recipients of clotting factors made before 1987 or recipients of blood and/or solid organs before 1992, intravenous drug users, people who receive tattoos, men who have sex with other men, anyone with multiple sex partners, and hemodialysis patients.
