Who is charged to oversee use of controlled substances at CSU?
The Drug Review Committee (DRC) has been charged with the responsibility to oversee the use of controlled substances at CSU under the required Federal and State licenses held by the University. The DRC carries out this responsibility in several ways. First, University faculty members who require controlled substances for their research must complete a Drug Review Committee Application Form. DRC approval of the completed form allows the investigator to purchase a defined quantity of the approved, controlled substance. In order to purchase the approved controlled substance investigators must place the order through the CSU Purchasing Department and unless the investigator has DRC approval for that agent, Purchasing will not allow the order to be processed. Finally, the DRC monitors the record keeping and safe storage requirements for controlled substances by periodic inspection of labs or other locations where controlled substances are stored and used.
