Who is celebrating the Sri Krishna Janmastami Festival this week end or on Tuesday Sept 4Th?
Yes we are celebrating it on 4th Sept, 07, late evening at our house and preparations are going on. This is also known as Krishna Jayanthi. We celebrate the birthday of Krishna in the month of Avani (Aug-Sept) on Ashtami Thidhi and star Rohini. we celebrate this festival preparing sweets and savories which Lord Krishna likes. we decorate the idol or picture of Krishna , decorate the floor with kolams , we draw the footprint of Lord Krishna depicting his entrance into our home.. from the door to the pooja place. It is believed that Krishna comes to our houses. we sing Bhajans, songs in praise of Lord Krishna like Jaya Devar’s Ashtapathi(geetha govindam) and read Bhagvad Gita and other Krishna Slokas. Lord Krishna was born in the evening and so this festival is celebrated in the evening or late evening towards midnight only. We place all kinds of fruits, betel etc along with Coconut, Chapped rice (aval – this is his favourite as the poor Sudama gave it to him) butter, Milk Sweets – Thira
