As of April 2, 2001, Bear Hunter Specialists, LLC purchased the specialist rights of the Company’s former specialist, GHM, Inc. and formed a joint account with another significant AMEX specialist firm, AEGIS Specialist, LLC, specializing in all of the listed equity securities acquired from GHM, Inc., including Avanir Pharmaceuticals. Later that month, they acquired the specialist business of NYSE specialist firm Stott Mercator LLC, forming Wagner Stott Bear Specialists LLC. The newly combined firm represents a formidable force on the NYSE and the AMEX, claiming to be unparalleled in terms of strength in capital (reporting a capital base of over $400 million), market-making ability and service. Also, Wagner Stott Bear Specialists, part-owned by Bear Stearns & Co., Inc., is one of the largest specialist firms on the floor of the American Stock Exchange.
