Who is at risk of HIV infection and how can the risk be reduced?
Everyone is potentially at risk. Studies have shown that latex condoms are very effective in reducing the risk of transmitting HIV especially if they are used correctly and consistently. HIV is transmitted through blood to blood contact. It is, in fact, harder to catch than Hepatitis C. You can get it by having sex with someone who is infected. You can also get it by sharing needles and syringes with someone who is HIV positive and there is also a risk of HIV infection to infants of mothers who are HIV positive either before or during birth or through breast feeding.
