Who is at risk for low intakes of calcium and vitamin D?
Many Americans are not achieving the recommended intake of calcium. Approximately 70% of the population* does not get enough calcium. In fact, 9 out of 10 teen girls don’t consume enough calcium and 3 out of 4 teen boys are falling short. Low intakes of calcium are of particular concern for children and adolescents because you actively build bone until about age 30. Adult women are especially likely to have inadequate calcium and vitamin D intakes, which puts them at risk for osteoporosis.
