Who is at risk and can benefit from taking the test?
A number of groups are at risk – patients with glaucoma, diabetes, strokes and cataracts. Glaucoma is directly related to the loss of the peripheral vision. If you are above 45 or have a history of glaucoma in the family, you are at risk of developing glaucoma. It is estimated that 1 out of 40 people above the age of 45 have glaucoma, yet only half are aware of their condition. At present, more than 1.5 million Americans, and 50 million people worldwide have glaucoma without knowing it. Lack of effective screening is the cause of so much blindness!
