Who is at most risk for developing serious alcohol and drug problems?
Teenagers at risk for developing serious alcohol and drug problems include those: • who are depressed; • who have low self-esteem; • who feel like they don’t fit in or are out of the mainstream; • who have a parent, sibling, or other blood relative who is an alcoholic or drug addict; • who seem to “fall in love” with alcohol or drugs on their very first try; and • who grow up surrounded by hard-drinking role models.
