The Archduke Francis Ferdinand is a historical figure who is most well-known for being assassinated; the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand served as the catalyst for the First World War, a conflict which ultimately involved much of Europe along with allies overseas such as the United States, Russia, and the Ottoman Empire.
