Who is Amana ?
Amana Heating & Air Conditioning, a recognized manufacturer of quality home comfort products and a leader in service and installation, has its roots in Amana, a manufacturer of home appliances. Amana Appliances was started in Amana, Iowa, by a young entrepreneur, George Foerstner, who accepted a challenge from a local businessman to develop a reliable beverage cooler. The company achieved early success in creating walk-in beverage coolers, or cold storage lockers, for use in plants, grocery stores and restaurants. Despite a major fire, that destroyed much of the Amana, Iowa facility, Amana was instrumental in supplying walk-in coolers during World War II. As a result of the companys efforts under such difficult circumstances, Amana received the Army-Navy “E” Award for Excellence. Amana began building chest freezers in 1945 and two years later, became the first manufacturer to nationally market an upright freezer for the home.
