WHO IS A VOLUNTEER?
Any individual who is sympathetic and kind enough to work for the benefit of the people around us without expecting any material reward is rightly called a volunteer. Every person has been a volunteer once in a while in his/her daily life. You certainly are a volunteer when you help some old women cross the busy road or when you try to save a drowning person. Now, when you participate in the program of Aim abroad, you are going to do the same with a wider purview and with a more meaningful purpose.
Different people give different reasons for voluntary work. For some the desire to serve fellow human beings is the main reason. Some other do it to get more adventure and excitement in their lives. For others it is a good way of learning new skills. The fact is, almost any reason that motivates you to work as a volunteer is worthwhile. You dont even have to have a definite reason as voluntary work can give people the chance to travel, meet new people, interact with new culture and face some never before experiences that enhance your life and career. A volunteer is a person who offers to devote his/her knowledge ,time and energy within the framework of a collective social effort to work actively for the general interest of the community as an activist and with no negative effect or paid employment. WORK CAMP ACTIVITIES Every single work camp is divided into four (4) sessions: 1/Work This will involve physical work. This normally will take place 3-4 hours in the morning before lunch (Monday-Friday).Detailed information about the work will be sent to all organizations /individuals before the camp starts. 2/Study Two to three hours after lunch (Monday-Friday) is allocated for discussion, seminars etc.. Sometimes we will have invited guests speakers to present for discussion but most of the time volunteers will facilitate the discussions.
