Who is a Radiological Technologist?
The radiological technologist is a health care professional who utilizes radiation to produce images of patient’s anatomical structures. The quality of the image is critical as it will assist physicians in the diagnosis/treatment of the disease or injury. The technologist must be knowledgeable and skilled in a wide variety of procedures as all body systems are imaged. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) positioning the patient for radiologic procedures, care of the patient, appropriate choice and use of equipment, image manipulation, selection of radiation exposure factors, implementation of radiation protection techniques and critique of the radiograph. Whatever the procedure, the technologist must be adaptable to meet challenges presented by the patient’s physical or psychological state.
