Who is a pitcher, and what role do a batter and a fielder play on the field?
A pitcher is a player who throws the pitch (a ball thrown by the pitcher) to the batter whose goal in turn is to hit the ball and score runs. This is an offensive strategy employed by the batter and he does so by running from the home base to first and so on in an anticlockwise direction. When the ball is hit by the batter the defensive players (fielders) positioned at their various positions on the field try to catch or field the ball in an attempt to get the batter/runners out.
