Who is a knowledge worker?
“Knowledge worker” is a term introduced by eminent business and management thinker Peter F Drucker in 1959 in his book Landmarks of Tomorrow. Peter F Drucker (1974) defines “A Knowledge worker is one who puts to work what he has learned in systematic education, that is, concepts, ideas and theories, rather than the man who puts to work manual skill or muscle” (Peter F Drucker, 1974, p 32). Another definition says “Knowledge workers are people who use their heads more than their hands to produce value (at work). They add value through their ideas, analyses, their judgement, their syntheses and their designs. They still use their hands, but it is more likely to be for inputting into a computer than lifting a sack” (Francis Horibe, 1999, preface xi).
