Who is a Jew?
In ancient times, to be a Jew simply meant that one was a resident of Judea. As Jews dispersed across the world, a Jew was considered anyone with a Jewish father. In more contemporary times, having a Jewish mother or father made one Jewish. Humanistic Judaism believes that a Jew is a person of Jewish descent or any person who declares himself or herself to be a Jew and who identifies with the history, culture, ethical values, civilization, community and fate of the Jewish people. 6.
