Who is a famous landscape artist?
Thomas Cole (American, 1801-1848) is famous for founding the Hudson River School- who were a group of artists that painted the Hudson River Valley and the areas surrounding. His paintings have amazing textural contrasts that translate into emotion. His rough, focused and hard foregrounds blending away toward a misty, romantic and expansive world as the painting travels into the distance– It’s like a timeline– the realistic, pointed present we live in, with all it’s solid texture, shifting off into a future muted and uncertain, but comforting in its’ darkness. His paintings are full of turbulent movement and change.
