Who invented the theory of Climate Change?
There’s no single “inventor”. AGW has a long history of scientific research/discovery, going back nearly two centuries. The first person to propose that the Earth’s atmosphere warms the planet by blocking outgoing infrared radiation was Joseph Fourier, who served as a mathematician in Napoleon’s army. The first laboratory experiments that identified CO2 as a greenhouse gas were performed by John Tyndall back in the 1850’s. And the first person to calculate how much a doubling of CO2 would warm the Earth was Svante Arrhenius. He did that over a century ago. So AGW is no “flash in the pan” fad. It has a long and distinguished scientific history. This statement made by a previous poster here demonstrates the strong “tinfoil-hatter” element in the AGW “skeptic” movement: “So the government gains from the theory of climate change. Scientists have discovered it is easier to get government grants if they claim their research is affected by climate change.” People who make baseless smears like
