I hate to be preachy, but Nikola Tesla was actually the one who was awarded the radio patent. He built the first one out of his Tesla coil and demonstrated it to a crowd before Marconi. Marconi later stole Tesla’s patents, and Tesla spent the entire remainder of his life fighting for his rights as an inventor of it. The Supreme court ruled that Tesla was the true inventor shortly after his death. Tesla was the one who “put it all together”. He worked with alternating current and transformers, which were both crucial in understanding the relationship between radio waves and electric currents. But there were many before him who had noticed this relationship; the first of whom was Faraday. Michael Faraday first proposed the existence of electromagnetic waves and he theorized about a changing current producing a field and vice-versa. You could say that Faraday discovered radio waves, but Tesla invented the radio.
