No one. It just happened. First there was indoor plumbing. Since most people were right handed, they put the water faucet handle on the right hand side of the sink. You could turn it on with the right hand and catch the water in a glass with the left hand, and any you did not catch would go into the sink. Then they added hot water. Since the right side was already set up for cold water, which was still used more than hot, they stuck the hot water faucet on the left hand side of the sink. Next there were places such as motels and hotels built with both hot and cold water from the start. The designers and plumbers took a short cut in installing the water pipes. They would make every pair of rooms mirror images of each other so the bathrooms were on the joining walls. They would run the hot and cold water pipes up inside the joining walls then “T” the pipes so water would go to each adjoining bathroom.
