Who invaded china and destroyed the Song dynasty?
Both Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan. The Chinese soldiers in south China held the Mongols off for 40 years. The war lasted more than one generation. There was another Khan in between Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan. He died in battle during the siege of a Song city. He was hit by a round of primitive artillery and died later that day. Song Dynasty however, only controlled the south part of China at the beginning of the war. They lost all territory north of Yangzte River to Jin Dynasty, who fell to victim to Mongols first. Song and Jin fought for generations as well. Jin forced Song to move the capital to south. So Song hated Jin, and they in fact helped Mongols to destroy Jin even the Jin begged them to “see the bigger picture”.
