Who in yr family will look after yr elderly parents if and when the time comes?
None of us will. My parents have already said they don’t want us to look after them. They’ll stay on their own as long as they can possibly look after themselves, if they need any help we’ll get a home carer to come in and if they can’t live on their own anymore we’ll find them somewhere where they’ll be properly looked after. My dad always jokes that he’ll be coming to live in my attic when he’s old, hiding behind the boiler and popping out every now and then for a cup of tea. But I know my parents don’t want to be looked after by their children and if I had children I certainly wouldn’t want to burden them with looking after me. I sense I’ll get a lot of thumbs down for this as people will think I’m cruel and heartless. I would try my best to look after my parents if they wanted me to, but they don’t want me to, so I won’t.
