Who in the egyptian society made the mummies?
The mummification process was carried out by the wab priests who were specially trained in the procedure. An incision was made on the left side to enable the removal of the internal organs. This was done by a special priest wearing a mask of the god Anubis and this was his only duty. He wore the mask so the deceased ka (soul) and ba(spirit double) would be unable recognize him and haunt him. The task was considered so heinous to the ancient Egyptians that this priest would be ritually and literally chased from the room directly after he had made the incision which was always made with an obsidian blade and he was forced to live as a hermit apart from society. The area that was set aside for the mummification process which took around 70 days was called the Wabet and was specifically used for mummification procedures..
